WHEN YOU CALL 9-1-1

When you call 9-1-1 in the City of Conyers, the Operator will answer: “Conyers 9-1-1 where is the emergency?” It is very important to know the following information:

  • The location of the emergency.
  • The type of emergency
  • Your name and address
  • The closest cross street
  • Stay on the phone until the operator tells you to hang up. The operator can send you help while they are still on the phone with you.

REMEMBER: STAY CALM.   SPEAK CLEARLY.   HELP IS ON THE WAY

If you are calling 9-1-1 from a house or business, the operator may already know your location from information received at the 9-1-1 center. However, if you call 9-1-1 from a cell phone, the operator will not know your location. It is important that you know where you are. Look for landmarks such are street signs, mile markers, and businesses near by.

One thing that 9-1-1 and the cell phone companies are working on is being able to pin point a cell phone location using latitude and longitude. This is still in the works in the state of Georgia but will be available in the near future.
